During April 2020, the Western Cape Health department contacted us with the urgent request to assist them commission a Covid-19 field hospital. This was during the time that “lockdown” restrictions were instituted world-wide. The brief was something out of the ordinary, options were limited and time was of the essence.
Without delay, we structured a sub-lease with the Western Cape Department of Health in order to make the facility available in combatting the pandemic.
The project entailed a complete transition of converting warehouse space into a high-tech field hospital. We assisted in pulling together an efficient professional team and contractors, and ran a 24/7 programme for roughly 5 weeks. The end product may well be known to be one of the best temporary field hospitals in the world.
The Covid-19 field hospital opened it’s doors to the first infected patients on 20 July 2020 and successfully weathered the Covid-19 storm.
Today, this facility remains in operation and services the Western Cape Health Department as a decanting facility to Karl Bremer Hospital during it’s extensive renovations.
